Singapore's Airport to be Even More Accessible

In Singapore, things have started to get better, especially for people with disabilities. Singapore’s Changi airport will be getting much smarter and more accessible. The country’s airport will receive a new smart wheelchair, courtesy of ST Engineering.

The new smart wheelchair was developed by Singapore Technologies Engineering (ST Engineering), a Singapore-based, state-owned technology company. ST Engineering has been expanding its core defense businesses, making a deep dive into new growth areas, the smart city business. ST Engineering aims to further develop new technologies and come out with better ideas and useful products.

About Singapore’s new smart wheelchair

ST Engineering has developed a “smart wheelchair” system for Singapore’s Changi Airport, allowing a single operator to handle three wheelchairs simultaneously. In developing the smart wheelchair, the company teamed up with Nanyang Technological University, one of the top-ranked universities in Asia-Pacific region.

The smart wheelchair features an accurate trajectory-following technique. It also equipped with a vision tracking algorithm and obstacle detection technology, which allows the wheelchair to accurately and safely track the wheelchair in front. The technology also allows the wheelchair convoy to get through thick or high-volume of human traffic.

In addition to the smart wheelchair, the company also developed a smart bus stop, which the company introduced last year.
