PRAFUL to Lend a Helping Hand To People with Disability Affected By Odisha's Cyclone Fani

In May 2019, Odisha people had to deal with the devastating Cyclone Fani which destroyed the homes of many people with disabilities. The administration in Puri has launched a rehabilitation initiative to help them regain their normal lives and rebuild the region.

Cyclone Fani is deemed as India's biggest storm, which had shattered many houses, buildings, roads, and other structures. The destructive wind left people living in the region homeless. On top of that, several individuals lost their means of livelihood in the cyclone.

The Puri district administration has come up with a project called PwDs Rehabilitation After Fani & Unfolding Lives (PRAFUL) to provide much-need help and support for people with disabilities who are usually most vulnerable in the event of a natural disaster such as the Cyclone Fani.

Their goal is to lend a helping hand to people who are defenseless in the event of a natural disaster.

PRAFUL comprises several such development plans that are slated to be achieved within a time frame of one year in an effort to ensure people with disabilities in the area receive equal opportunities in terms of education, treatment, growth, as well as rehabilitation.

Jyoti Prasanna Patnaik, an expert who is working with PRAFUL said they have a count of something around 6,000, houses, 4000 toilets, schools they are going build to give a better life to the upcoming generation.

Cyclone Fani claimed several lives and there is a lot of work to be done for those affected by the natural disaster. PRAFUL will be leaving no stone unturned in a bid to bring people with disabilities back into the mainstream.

Abhimanyu Pradha, an individual affected by the cyclone noted that he is facing financial crisis following the disastrous cyclone. He not only lost his shop, but also his home.

Despite his poor financial condition, Pradhan has been working really hard to reestablish his business. He appreciates the fact that the district administration has commenced an initiative to help them.
