How Do YOU Defeat the Blues?

Hey,

What do you do when you are blue? Music helps me a lot. Activity is another way I avoid getting “in a funk” Did you know that your skin absorbs vitamin D from the sun? This vitamin D is helpful to your immune system. It helps fight depression too. 10 to 30 minutes exposure to midday sun not only gets you up and outside… it boosts your vitamin D! Sunshine literally brightens your day!

Having a disability is not easy. And disability or not, life, in general, is not easy. We ALL have our own issues. It’s easy to get bogged down and blue. My advice if you’re feeling down is to get up, get out, and get some sun! Just don’t forget your sunscreen.

Whatever you do that makes you happy, get out there and get doing! Exercise releases endorphins. Endorphins are your bodies own way of giving you a boost of energy when you need it. You will feel better for it. If you are still down, talk to someone.

Sometimes just talking to a friend about what’s bothering you helps. There are professional listeners out there. They are called counselors… it’s quite literally what they do. And they are good at it. That’s how they got the job!

I have been to a counselor myself a few times. It helped. If none of this helps you, talk to someone you trust. Do not keep it bottled up inside. That can make it worse and keeping that stress to yourself can cause other health issues in the long run. Go outside, take a deep breath, and soak up some sun. Listen to your favorite songs, call a friend or two, or talk to your parents—whatever works best for you. Don’t let the blues bring you down. Let the sun bring you up! And if you still need help, there is help out there!

We all have something to look forward to...the trick is to keep looking forward.

Keep movin y’all.
