If you have a physical or medical disability and don’t have the means to travel to your treatments, Ford has a solution: The car-maker will give you a ride!
The automaker announced this week that it is expanding its Ford GoRide Health service to provide transportation to people with disabilities. Through this paratransit system, Ford is demonstrating the importance of neighborly kindness and the auto industry’s responsibility to provide disability transportation for medical needs to people of all types.
Ford’s GoRide Health system uses a program that automatically connects and dispatches drivers to meet clients and bring them to their medical appointments on time. The program originated in the greater Detroit region, where the company spent a year optimizing its system operations, driver training and vehicle modification.
Now, GoRide Health’s operations are expanding to Ohio this year, followed by Florida and other states in 2020. The expansion also involves paratransit services in Dayton, OH, for anyone in the general public needing disability transportation services. The company will partner with the Greater Dayton Regional Transit Authority to coordinate and dispatch special transportation accommodations for people who have trouble accessing and riding the public R.T.A. bus system.
“GoRide Health is gaining momentum because it is a reliable, human-centered service for people whose very lives depend on making their medical appointments,” said Minyang Jiang, CEO of GoRide Health. “Despite a critical and growing need across our country, most patients are unable to find reliable transportation and drivers who understand their needs. GoRide Health can fill that gap.”
The GoRide non-emergency medical transportation vans are built off the automaker’s Transit van platform. They’re a great example of how the automaker’s Transit lineup can be upfitting and converted to provide specialized transportation solutions for those in wheelchairs and other mobility needs.
Having your own upfitted, wheelchair-accessible van provides freedom and independence so you can go wherever you want. But, if you’re unable to drive yourself, Ford’s GoRide Health service is a great alternative.
